Question: Who in the western horse world has influenced you and your training?

Monty’s Answer:

It is absolutely true that I was alone in the concepts of gentle training in the early stages of my career. As I began to explore equine behavior deeper, I was influenced by Bill Dorrance. As I began winning championships in the Western Show arena, Don Dodge helped me immensely to take me to higher levels of understanding my horse and the training needed.

Inspiring and imparting to my students has always been very gratifying to me. It seems that it was about 1950 when I said that I didn’t want any student of mine to be as good as I am; I wanted every student to be better than I am. In the last three decades, I would have to say that some of my students have impressed me and even influenced my own daily routines. It is very gratifying as they are winning championships around the globe.

Sincerely,
