FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Solvang, CA. May 18, 2021 – Monty likes horses and they like him. From the age of 3, horses have been his passion, his teachers and his providers. His vision of the future has lead him to have a storied career which seems to evolve throughout his eight decades as he discovered new and innovative ways to train horses and people.

The Equine Industry Vision Award (EIVA) has now tapped four individuals who exemplify outstanding visionary achievement or sustained contributions that have made a profound impact on the equine industry.

Monty Roberts is amongst good company in the American Horse Publications 2021 finalists for the Equine Industry Vision Award that recognizes ingenuity and service as well as the benefit to the equine industry by inspiring these qualities in others. The finalists include:

  • Breyer® Horses is the world’s leading brand of horse-inspired toys, gifts, collectibles and live events and has been inspiring horse lovers of all ages for over 70 years.  Breyer provides a balance of ‘real horse’ experience into every product they create allowing for anyone who loves horses to feel like they are part of the horse community – even if they have never ridden a horse.   When a worldwide pandemic created widespread disruption in the horse industry, the visionary team at Breyer produced a virtual sensation to open BreyerFest to the world.
  • Keith Dane is the Senior Advisor, Equine Protection, The Humane Society of the United States. At HSUS, he has led his team in the development of many resources, programs, and campaigns to educate horse owners, encourage owner responsibility, and raise awareness of (and reduce) threats to welfare of domestic equines. Dane is a passionate advocate for the protection of equines with a special focus on Tennessee Walking Horses, his beloved breed of choice since childhood.
  • Monty Roberts, an internationally respected horse trainer and educator, is committed to improve on the traditional ways of treating not only animals but also the people around horses. His sustained eight decades of outstanding contributions have made a profound impact on the equine industry.
  • Linda Tellington-Jones is the pioneering founder of TTouch Training that has influenced thousands of horses and people for 50 plus years. From backyard horses and horsemen to the apex of Olympic riders, Linda Tellington-Jones and her TTouch methods have made a much-needed revolutionary shift in the horse world.

“There is no greater honor than to be recognized in the company of the visionaries included in this list. This list exemplifies the diversity of our industry to produce companies and individuals with contributions over multiple decades. Thank you American Horse Publications and Zoetis for recognizing all of us with this award, since 2001,” Monty Roberts spoke on his 86th birthday.

The  2021 Equine Industry Vision Award Winner will be announced on Friday, September 17 at a breakfast sponsored by Zoetis held during the AHP Equine Media Conference in Irving, Texas. The recipient will receive a crystal EIVA trophy created by master artisan Peter Wayne Yenawine.

MONTY ROBERTS first gained widespread fame with the release of his New York Times Best Selling book, The Man Who Listens To Horses; a chronicle of his life and development of his non-violent horse training methods called Join-Up®. Monty grew up on a working horse farm as a firsthand witness to traditional, often violent methods of horse training and breaking the spirit with an abusive hand. Rejecting that, he went on to win nine world’s championships in the show ring. Today, Monty’s goal is to share his message that “Violence is never the answer.” Roberts has been encouraged by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with the award of the Membership in The Royal Victorian Order, as well as becoming Patron of Join-Up International. Other honors received were the ASPCA “Founders” award and the MSPCA George T. Angell Humanitarian Award and FEI’s Man of the Year. Monty was recently included as Horse and Hound Magazine’s Top 50 Horsemen of All Time. Monty is credited with launching the first of its kind Equus Online University; an interactive online lesson site that is the definitive learning tool for violence-free training.
