The Movement – Monty Roberts-Produced

“Violence is Not the Answer” Named Triple Finalist

for EQUUS INTERNATIONAL Film Festival® Awards

Solvang, California (January 31, 2019): Monty Roberts is known as a horse whisperer, a New York Times best-selling author, an honorary Member of the Royal Victorian Order and now it might be time to add, “the Tom Hanks of equestrian filmdom.”

The 30 minute film from Monty Roberts Productions, The Movement – Monty Roberts and Diego, the Wild Mustang, Violence is Not the Answer, has been officially selected as a finalist in three Best Of award categories – Best Series, Best Training and Best Film Representing the Horse/Human Bond — during the 2019 EQUUS INTERNATIONAL® Film Festival, March 14-17, at the Roxy Theater in Missoula, MT.

“Violence is never the answer,” says Roberts. “Violence is always for the violator and never for the victim. None of us was born with the right to say you must or I’ll hurt you to any other creature, animal or human. That’s the policy I’ve lived with. Bringing it over to horses, allow a horse to want to do it. Congratulate them. Tell them how good they were.”

In 2017, EIFF presented Roberts with its Equine Icon Award for his work bettering horses’ lives and embodying the horse/human bond. He also accepted four EIFF awards for Monty Roberts Productions, for Best Music Video (Whisper), Best Short Series (Palm Island: Horse Sense for People); Best Series (Backstage Pass); and Best Equine/Human Bond (Shy Boy, The Horse that Came in from the Wild ).

Monty Roberts first gained widespread fame with the release of his New York Times Best Selling book, The Man Who Listens To Horses; a chronicle of his life and development of his non-violent horse training methods called Join-Up®. Monty grew up on a working horse farm as a firsthand witness to traditional, often violent methods of horse training and breaking the spirit with an abusive hand. Rejecting that, he went on to win nine world’s championships in the show ring. Today, Monty’s goal is to share his message that “Violence is never the answer.” He is credited with launching the first of its kind Equus Online University; an interactive online lesson site that is the definitive learning tool for violence-free training. Join-Up philosophies can be seen at work with both humans and horses across the world, from farms to major corporations. On Saturday evening, March 16, EQUUS INTERNATIONAL Film Festival will recognize some of the world’s best in documentary, independent, music video, and educational film craftsmanship across more than 30 award categories and posthumously recognize Dayton O. Hyde, founder of the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, with its 2019 Equine Icon Award.
